Akshaya Tritiya 2026अक्षय तृतीया

Hindu date: Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya.

It is kept on the day Tritiya covers the forenoon. If Tritiya touches the forenoon on two days, the second is taken only when Tritiya lasts at least three muhurtas after its sunrise.

Dates are calculated for New Delhi. In other cities, and especially outside India, the tithi changes at a different local time, so a festival can fall a day earlier or later. Month names follow the Purnimanta calendar used in North India, where a month ends on Purnima. How we calculate

It is one of the self-auspicious days (sade teen muhurat) on which weddings, griha pravesh and new ventures need no separate muhurat. Tradition associates the day with the birth of Parashurama and the start of the Treta Yuga, and the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri open for the year around it.

Buying gold and silver is customary, but the scriptures stress charity: water pots, fans, grain and clothes given in the summer heat.
