About Bhishma Ashtami· महत्व
Bhishma had the boon of choosing the moment of his death. Wounded in the war, he lay on a bed of arrows until the Sun turned north, and in those days taught Yudhishthira the duties of a king and the Vishnu Sahasranama. Since he had no children, anyone may offer him water and sesame (tarpan) on this day.

- Offer tarpan with water, sesame and kusha grass at midday.
- Recite the Vishnu Sahasranama.
- Many keep a fast and give food in charity.
