Why this date?· तिथि निर्णय
Hindu date: Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi.
Ekadashi is kept on the day before Dwadashi is current at sunrise, so that the fast can be broken (parana) within Dwadashi. Usually that is simply the day Ekadashi is current at sunrise; when Ekadashi spans two sunrises or is lost between them, this rule decides the day.
Dates are calculated for New Delhi. In other cities, and especially outside India, the tithi changes at a different local time, so a festival can fall a day earlier or later. Month names follow the Purnimanta calendar used in North India, where a month ends on Purnima. How we calculate
About Devshayani Ekadashi· महत्व
From this day until Devuthani Ekadashi, Vishnu rests in the ocean of milk, and weddings and other major ceremonies are traditionally not held. Many take vows of discipline for Chaturmas.
In Maharashtra it is Ashadhi Ekadashi, when lakhs of warkaris complete their walking pilgrimage to Lord Vitthal at Pandharpur.
