Hindu date: Adhik (extra month) Krishna Ekadashi.
Ekadashi is kept on the day before Dwadashi is current at sunrise, so that the fast can be broken (parana) within Dwadashi. Usually that is simply the day Ekadashi is current at sunrise; when Ekadashi spans two sunrises or is lost between them, this rule decides the day.
Dates are calculated for New Delhi; elsewhere they can fall a day earlier or later. Month names follow the Purnimanta calendar used in North India, where a month ends on Purnima. How we calculate
About Parama Ekadashi· महत्व
A poor Brahmin, Sumedha, and his wife Pavitra kept Parama Ekadashi on the advice of the sage Kaundinya, and their poverty ended. Like Padmini Ekadashi, it occurs only in an extra month.
How to keep the fast· विधि
- Eat a single sattvic meal without grains on Dashami, the day before.
- On Ekadashi avoid rice, wheat, pulses and beans; keep a full fast, a water-only fast or a fruit-and-milk (phalahar) fast as health allows.
- Worship Lord Vishnu with tulsi leaves, a ghee lamp and yellow flowers; read the Ekadashi katha or the Vishnu Sahasranama.
- Stay awake in bhajan or japa through the night if you can.
- Break the fast (parana) on Dwadashi after sunrise, after the first quarter of Dwadashi (Hari Vasara) and before Dwadashi ends.
