Sakat Chauth 2026सकट चौथ

Hindu date: Magha Krishna Chaturthi (Pausha Krishna Chaturthi in the Amanta calendar).

It is kept on the day Chaturthi is current at moonrise; the fast ends after offering water to the moon.

Dates are calculated for New Delhi. In other cities, and especially outside India, the tithi changes at a different local time, so a festival can fall a day earlier or later. Month names follow the Purnimanta calendar used in North India, where a month ends on Purnima. How we calculate

Sakat means trouble, and the vrat is kept to remove obstacles from children's lives. Mothers fast through the day, worship Ganesha with sesame and jaggery (tilkut), listen to the Sakat katha and break the fast after offering arghya to the moon.
