Saphala Ekadashi 2027: timings and parana →Saphala Ekadashi dates· तिथियाँ
Why this date?· तिथि निर्णय
Hindu date: Pausha Krishna Ekadashi.
Ekadashi is kept on the day before Dwadashi is current at sunrise, so that the fast can be broken (parana) within Dwadashi. Usually that is simply the day Ekadashi is current at sunrise; when Ekadashi spans two sunrises or is lost between them, this rule decides the day.
Dates are calculated for New Delhi; elsewhere they can fall a day earlier or later. Month names follow the Purnimanta calendar used in North India, where a month ends on Purnima. How we calculate
About Saphala Ekadashi· महत्व
The Padma Purana tells of Lumpaka, a prince banished for his wickedness. Cold and starving, he went without food one night and offered fruits to Vishnu at the foot of a tree. It happened to be this Ekadashi, and the unknowing fast changed his life and won back his kingdom.
How to keep the fast· विधि
- Eat a single sattvic meal without grains on Dashami, the day before.
- On Ekadashi avoid rice, wheat, pulses and beans; keep a full fast, a water-only fast or a fruit-and-milk (phalahar) fast as health allows.
- Worship Lord Vishnu with tulsi leaves, a ghee lamp and yellow flowers; read the Ekadashi katha or the Vishnu Sahasranama.
- Stay awake in bhajan or japa through the night if you can.
- Break the fast (parana) on Dwadashi after sunrise, after the first quarter of Dwadashi (Hari Vasara) and before Dwadashi ends.
