Why this date?· तिथि निर्णय
Hindu date: Magha Krishna Ekadashi.
Ekadashi is kept on the day before Dwadashi is current at sunrise, so that the fast can be broken (parana) within Dwadashi. Usually that is simply the day Ekadashi is current at sunrise; when Ekadashi spans two sunrises or is lost between them, this rule decides the day.
Dates are calculated for New Delhi; elsewhere they can fall a day earlier or later. Month names follow the Purnimanta calendar used in North India, where a month ends on Purnima. How we calculate
About Shattila Ekadashi· महत्व
A woman who gave generously in every other way but never gave food found her home in the next world empty of grain. She kept this Ekadashi with gifts of sesame and food, and her store was filled. The day is especially known for charity of til in the winter cold.

- Eat a single sattvic meal without grains on Dashami, the day before.
- On Ekadashi avoid rice, wheat, pulses and beans; keep a full fast, a water-only fast or a fruit-and-milk (phalahar) fast as health allows.
