About Basant Panchami· महत्व
Basant Panchami falls as the mustard fields turn yellow, and yellow is the colour of the day, in clothes, flowers and sweets. Students, musicians and artists worship Saraswati, and books, pens and instruments are placed before her.
Many families choose this day for a child's first lesson in writing (Vidyarambh or Akshar Abhyas). It is also counted among the self-auspicious days on which weddings and new work can begin without a separate muhurat.
How Basant Panchami is observed· विधि
- Wear yellow and offer yellow flowers, kesar halwa or boondi to Saraswati.
- Place books and instruments before the goddess and chant the Saraswati Vandana.
- Begin a child's education with their first letters.
- Fly kites, especially in Punjab and parts of North India.
