Basant Panchami 2026बसंत पंचमी

Hindu date: Magha Shukla Panchami.

It is kept on the day Panchami covers the forenoon (purvahna), the time of the Saraswati Puja.

Dates are calculated for New Delhi. In other cities, and especially outside India, the tithi changes at a different local time, so a festival can fall a day earlier or later. Month names follow the Purnimanta calendar used in North India, where a month ends on Purnima. How we calculate

Basant Panchami falls as the mustard fields turn yellow, and yellow is the colour of the day, in clothes, flowers and sweets. Students, musicians and artists worship Saraswati, and books, pens and instruments are placed before her.

Many families choose this day for a child's first lesson in writing (Vidyarambh or Akshar Abhyas). It is also counted among the self-auspicious days on which weddings and new work can begin without a separate muhurat.
