Krishna persuaded the people of Braj to worship the Govardhan hill, which fed their cattle, instead of Indra. Indra sent seven days of rain in anger, and Krishna held up the hill like an umbrella until he relented. Temples prepare the Annakut, a mountain of dishes (chhappan bhog), and homes shape a small Govardhan from cow dung or food and walk around it.
