Govardhan Puja 2027गोवर्धन पूजा

Hindu date: Kartika Shukla Pratipada.

It is kept on the morning Pratipada prevails, usually the day after Diwali, or two days after when Amavasya stretches into the next day.

Dates are calculated for New Delhi. In other cities, and especially outside India, the tithi changes at a different local time, so a festival can fall a day earlier or later. Month names follow the Purnimanta calendar used in North India, where a month ends on Purnima. How we calculate

Krishna persuaded the people of Braj to worship the Govardhan hill, which fed their cattle, instead of Indra. Indra sent seven days of rain in anger, and Krishna held up the hill like an umbrella until he relented. Temples prepare the Annakut, a mountain of dishes (chhappan bhog), and homes shape a small Govardhan from cow dung or food and walk around it.

The same day is the Gujarati New Year (Bestu Varas) and Bali Pratipada in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
