About Karwa Chauth· महत्व
The day begins with sargi, a pre-dawn meal sent by the mother-in-law. In the evening women gather in their finery to hear the Karwa Chauth katha, the story of Queen Veeravati, and worship Karwa Mata (Parvati) with an earthen karwa pot. When the moon rises they see it through a sieve, offer it water, and take their first sip from their husband's hands.
It is kept most widely in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
How Karwa Chauth is observed· विधि
- Eat sargi before sunrise.
- Fast without food or water until moonrise.
- Dress in solah shringar and apply mehndi.
- Listen to the katha in the evening and pass the thali around (thali feri).
- See the moon through a sieve, offer arghya and break the fast.
