About Ugadi· महत्व
The name comes from yuga and adi, the beginning of an age; tradition holds that Brahma began creation on this day. The festive dish, Ugadi pachadi (bevu-bella in Karnataka), mixes six tastes (neem, jaggery, tamarind, raw mango, salt and chilli) for the joys and sorrows of the year ahead.
In the evening families gather for Panchanga Shravanam, the reading of the new year's almanac.
