Why this date?· तिथि निर्णय
Hindu date: Chaitra Shukla Navami.
It is kept on the day Navami covers Madhyahna (midday), since Lord Rama was born at noon.
Dates are calculated for New Delhi. In other cities, and especially outside India, the tithi changes at a different local time, so a festival can fall a day earlier or later. Month names follow the Purnimanta calendar used in North India, where a month ends on Purnima. How we calculate
About Ram Navami· महत्व
The Valmiki Ramayana places Rama's birth at noon in Punarvasu nakshatra, which is why the main puja is done at Madhyahna. It is the last day of Chaitra Navratri.
Ayodhya celebrates on the largest scale, and homes and temples read the Ramcharitmanas or Ramayana, sing bhajans and rock an image of Ram Lalla in a cradle at noon. In South India, panakam (a jaggery drink) and kosambari are offered.
How Ram Navami is observed· विधि
