About Chaitra Navratri· महत्व
On the first day a kalash is installed (Ghatasthapana) and barley is sown beside it. Each day honours one form of the Goddess: Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri.
The first day is also the start of the Vikram Samvat new year, celebrated as Gudi Padwa and Ugadi. The ninth day is Ram Navami, and many families perform Kanya Puja on Ashtami or Navami.
How Chaitra Navratri is observed· विधि
- Install the kalash and sow barley (jaware) on the first morning.
- Keep an akhand jyoti (unbroken lamp) burning for the nine days.
- Fast, or eat only satvik phalahar food.
