About Sharad Navratri· महत्व
The nine nights remember Durga's battle with the buffalo demon Mahishasura, whom she slew on the tenth day. Rama is also said to have worshipped the Goddess before his battle with Ravana.
Gujarat dances garba and dandiya, Bengal celebrates Durga Puja, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka set up Golu dolls, and North India stages the Ramlila. Each day is dedicated to one of the nine forms of Durga.
How Sharad Navratri is observed· विधि
- Install the kalash (Ghatasthapana) and sow barley on the first morning.
- Keep an akhand jyoti and fast or eat satvik food.
- Read the Durga Saptashati and sing aartis morning and evening.
- Perform Kanya Puja on Ashtami or Navami.
- Break the fast on Dashami.
